About Kanno
Kanno is one of Metairie’s best-kept secrets, and the owners are okay with that. This small yet delectable Japanese restaurant is tucked away in a strip mall in Fat City. Seating is limited, so is the parking, but it is the high level of quality in both the food and service that keep their regulars coming back again and again. The menu features California-style sushi, but off-the-menu creations are available daily from Chef Elvis.
The “Elvis” Story
Chef Elvis is a highly skilled and well-rounded chef, classically trained in Osaka, Japan and cross-trained in San Diego with French and Italian cuisines. He moved from California to Louisiana in 2002 and opened Kanno. Everyone calls him Elvis because his Japanese-given name is difficult to say by many. And yes, he has a pretty amazing Elvis Presley trinket collection in the works.
Curious about the restaurant name? It is Chef Elvis’ uncle’s last name – mystery solved.
